Khao Manee

Origin And History The Khao Manee is an ancient cat breed comparable to the Siamese, Korat and other Thailand cat breeds. The Khao Manee is mentioned in the Tamra Maew, or Cat Book Poems, that as well mention the Siamese cat breed and other coat coloured cats endemic to the country Thailand or Siam as it was previously known. Khao Manee cats are pure white with a short, smooth, close-lying coat.
The Khao Manee is not to be confused with the Siamese, or any Siamese relative including the Foreign White Siamese, which was bred purely from Siamese with one white British short-hair cat breed Ancestor. Though both white cats have a common background, the Siamese cat and Khao Manee have different genetic structures, bloodlines and breeding policies, thus Khao Manee are considered a completely different breed in the west, as well as in its native home of Thailand.
The Khao Mannee was said to be kept and bred initially by Siam royals, as it was with other rare colored cats such as the Siamese. Breeders in Thailand, are promoting and breeding the Khao Manee in the effort of preserving its lineage, and breed standard. The first Khao Manee cat imported to the United States occurred was in 1999 when Colleen Freymouth imported a Khao Manee by the name of Sripia. Breeders in the west are working to promote and establish foundation lines for the Khao Manee, as well as acquire registration acceptance through several cat associations.
Personality Khao Manee Cat breeds do not show much personality change when entering a new home. They should adapt within a few days to their new living space. The Khao Manee Cat seems to like to meet new people. It will almost always be the first to introduce itself to a new person. The Khao Manee Cat breed is very social and loves to interact with people. They make a great addition to any household that is wanting a feline companion. Bringing the Khao Manee Cat to a home with children will bring the animal great joy. This cat loves children and their playful actions. Owners should not expect any problem when introducing their Khao Manee Cat into a living space with dogs. They often look forward to playing with their canine housemates. The Khao Manee Cat really enjoys snuggling and showing affection. Owners get plenty of love from this cat! Playfulness is part of the Khao Manee Cats nature. It looks forward to playing with its owner each day. Energy is not a problem for the Khao Manee Cat. At times it can appear to have an endless amount! This cat develops habits and routines, and can also be trained because they are highly intelligent.

Physical Attributes

Appearance The Khao Manee Cat has been known for its medium size and this has been a deciding factor for many owners of this breed. Its build is best described as petite. Future cat owners that are searching for a medium sized cat breed will be very pleased with this cat as it often weighs within 8 lbs (3.6 kg) to 10 lbs (4.5 kg). The fur (or lack-there-of) of the Khao Manee Cat is often described as glabrous, reveling, and stark. This is because this Khao Manee Cat breed has a strong bloodline! Their fur (or skin) may come in colours such as pure white; which can make them very unique among their peers. The long length tail found in most of the Khao Manee Cat breed is believed to help the cat with balance, grace, and agility. The Khao Manee Cat breed has a reputation for having large sized eyes which lead them to be more attractive than other feline breeds. Khao Manee cats are pure white with a short, smooth, close-lying coat. They can have blue eyes, gold eyes or odd eyes with one of each colour. The odd eyed Khao Manee is the rarest variety. They are muscular, athletic cats of moderate foreign type and are reputed to be active, communicative and intelligent.
Health This cat breed has less problems than others, but will have the occurrence of health problems on occasion. Overall the Khao Manee Cat is fairly healthy. While many cat breeds do have some mild health issues, common ones for the Khao Manee Cat breed are Vomiting, Fleas, and Diarrhea. People with cat allergies, are taking a risk by being in contact with Khao Manee Cat breed. It may cause an allergic reaction.
