Praying Mantis/Flower Mantis

Place of Origin and Range Tropical and sub-Tropical parts of the world.
Description The forelegs are elongated for grasping with toothed edges for holding prey. They eyes are bulbous and set on the sides of the triangular head, with the mouth at the apex. Some species are intricately modified, resembling twigs, flowers, or leaves. Colours range from brown to green to pink or a combination there of.
Adult Size Can grow up to 6 in (15 cm) depending on species.
Accommodation Temperate, with lots of substrate. Moss or live plants will do fine. Mist daily for humidity and because they drink water droplets on leaves.
Lifespan Can live 3-5 years depending on species.
Feeding / Diet All mantids are insectivores, and can eat prey almost as large as they are. Feed crickets, moths, flies, and other insects.
Other Considerations Mantids are cannibalistic. Be careful especially when mating.
